The mysterious tombstone appeared in a grassy area on the complex last week. (KTLA-TV / July 26, 2011) |
Nobody knows just when it arrived, but some say the marble headstone appeared around July 18 in an open area in front of a condominium complex on the 13000 block of Moorpark Street.
It reads: "Loving Husband Father and Physician Jeffrey Lang, 1976-2012."
Locals are calling it spooky, but no effort to remove the headstone has yet been made.
"It just showed up here the other night, I was walking along here around 1 o'clock in the morning and was like 'oh my God,'" says Karen Mangini, who has lived in the area for 15 years.
"We were wondering if it was some sort of omen somebody here that better watch out. This is the strangest thing."
Mangini says the spot is owned by the city but maintained by residents of the complex as a dog park.
Residents say they have no idea who Jeffrey Lang is that and that he doesn't live on the property.
A search for a physician named Jeffrey Lang in Sherman Oaks doesn't provide any details and no such doctor is listed with the state's Medical Board.
"I think somebody left it there as a joke," resident Dafna said.
"It says the person died in 2012 and it's not 2012 yet, so I think it's some sort of joke about the end of the world."
