SILVER LAKE, Calif. (KTLA) -- Police have arrested an 18-year-old suspect in the road rage shooting death of a 25-year-old pizza deliveryman in Silver Lake.
Jose Beltran, 18, is accused of killing David Vasquez, a delivery man for Garage Pizza, who was driving his co-workers home Aug 7 when he was shot once in the head.
He died 7 days later.
LAPD officials say Beltran was initially arrested on Aug. 19 on suspicion of driving with a loaded firearm. LAPD spokesman Andrew Smith told the Los Angeles Times that detectives nailed down their case after Beltran was in custody.
Investigators say Vasquez was traveling on Effie Street toward Silver Lake Boulevard when he first encountered Beltran.
At Micheltorena, the suspect stopped and waited for Vasquez to pass, according to police.
The suspect then passed Vasquez at Berkely and Silver Lake Boulevard, and began yelling.
Vasquez slowed to allow the driver to pass, but instead the gunman opened fire at Scott Place.
Vasquez is described as a hard worker and loyal employee who also worked a second job at El Chavo in Silver Lake to help support his family.
"He's a friend, he never did anything to anybody," Garage Pizza manager Kevin Ramsey told KTLA.
"Whoever did this is a coward.... He had a family."
