BAJA-- No immediate reports of damage or injuries were reported when a 3.6 magnitude earthquake hit near the California- Mexico border Saturday.

The quake struck at 3:37 p.m. 29 miles southwest of Guadalupe Victoria, Mexico, about 45 miles south of Calexico with a depth of 6.3 miles below the earth's surface, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Earlier, at 6:02 a.m. Saturday, a smaller 3.2 magnitude earthquake struck very nearby, 47 miles south by southwest of Guadalupe Victoria, Mexico.

On the north side of the border, a still-weaker earthquake was recorded just after noon today, 26 miles north of El Centro.

Earthquakes of these magnitudes rarely cause structural damage or great injury, but are of alarm to nearby residents.
