CARLSBAD, Calif. -- A 44-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to stealing more than 2,000 books and DVDs from several Southern California libraries.

Maria Nater was arrested back in September after officers served a search warrant on her Vista home.

Inside, police said they found more than 2,000 library books and DVDs from the Carlsbad library and other public libraries in San Diego County.

In exchange for pleading guilty to one count of felony burglary, Nater is set to receive probation when sentenced April 25.

The value of the stolen books was valued at more than $5,000.

Some of the bar codes on the library books had been ripped off, and Nater admitted that she had been selling books on Amazon.com, prosecutors said.

The most common topics were animals, crafts and cooking, according to a Carlsbad library spokesman.

An investigation began when Carlsbad librarians noticed an unusually large number of books disappearing between March and July.
