LONG BEACH -- A baby sea lion is safe and back in the water after being found stranded in Long Beach.

Tommy Lee says he found the animal near Golden Shore Street around 9:00 p.m. Monday, just feet from the water. Lee was walking and said the animal came up to him with a sad look on its face.

"He was looking at me like he needed help, a tear almost came out," Lee said.

The sea lion, estimated to be less than 6 months old, was lying practically motionless under a stairwell leading to the waterfront.

It appeared as though the tide went down and didn't bring the animal with it.

Lee said he waited with the stranded sea lion for about two hours before Animal Control officers showed up and safely led the animal back to the water.
