LOS ANGELES ( KTLA) -- A U.S. District judge has come to the rescue of Batman, Spiderman and Superman. The superheroes are allowed to perform on Hollywood Boulevard.

Federal Judge Dean Pregerson issued a preliminary injunction Wednesday, blocking what he calls selective enforcement by the LAPD against street performers.

Police have recently cracked down on the street performers, who often collect tips, along the Walk of Fame.

About two dozen costumed characters were arrested in June on various charges, including blocking a public sidewalk.

The performers complained about police harassment.

Judge Pregerson says the costumed performances are constitutionally protected by the First Amendment.
