BEVERLY HILLS -- Barbra Streisand is cleaning out her closets -- all in the name of charity.
More than 400 personal items belonging to the legendary entertainer will be auctioned off October 17th and 18th at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Proceeds will benefit Streisand's foundation, which aids humanitarian causes worldwide.
The items include costumes and gowns from TV, stage and film including clothing worn in "The Way We Were," "Funny Lady," "Meet the Fockers". Furniture, rugs, fur coats, paintings, wigs, books, a Yamaha baby grand piano will also be auctioned off. Potential buyers can see the entire list of items in a 280 page on-line catalogue.
Just about everyone can get involved. The starting price for the items range from $100 for a group of six teddy bears and one rabbit, some vintage and some modern to $30,000 to $40,000 for a pair of George III mahogany library bookcase cabinets circa 1790 from Streisand's New York apartment.
Art works include a painting by a Dutch painter, Kees van Dongen, La Chanteuse, and The Letter, a work by a Belgian painter, Frans Verhas. Among other offerings are a selection of Americana furnishings, Art Deco fixtures, Oriental rugs and Native American baskets.
"What good does it do in storage?" the 67-year-old entertainer said. "Let someone else enjoy it. These things, they're not forever. We pass them on and reap the benefits for something important."
The auction will be conducted by Julien's Auctions.
