Substitute teacher accused of being drunk in class (Carl Hankey K-8 School website) |
The alleged incident happened around 2 p.m. Monday in a dance class at Carl Hankey K-8 school in Mission Viejo. It was the last class of the day.
A student in the class told another teacher that the substitute was acting strangely, according to sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino.
Amormino said that, as the teacher walked by the principal's office after class, the principal noticed the woman's balance was off, and called her into the office.
The principal smelled alcohol on the woman, Amormino said. She did not want the teacher getting behind the wheel as students were being released from school for the day, so the school contacted the sheriff's department.
The teacher had left by the time deputies arrived, but three six-grade boys told authorities the teacher had engaged in some sort of misconduct, Amormino said, declining to elaborate further.
The allegations are now the subject of a sheriff's department investigation.
