Woman Barricaded Inside Sun Valley Home Found Dead
LOS ANGELES -- A 57 year old woman who barricaded herself in a home in Sun Valley after neighbors reported hearing gunshots has been found dead, police say.

The discovery of the woman's body came hours after she stood with SWAT officers from inside her home in the 11700 block of Saticoy Street near Lankershim Boulevard.

Police say she died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"Unfortunately, under unfortunate circumstance, she took her own life," said Sgt. Dave Cueto of the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Station.

The first call of shots fired in the neighborhood came in at 11:15 a.m., according to Los Angeles police Officer Gregory Baek of the Media Relations Section.

Police confirmed that she had shot one round through the wall of the residence and a Strategic Weapons and Tactics team was called to the scene.

"Right now, we're just waiting the person out," said Los Angeles police Sgt. Dave Cueto at 2 p.m.

Cueto said the woman had no history of contact with the police or outstanding warrants.

The woman appeared to have "no intended target" when she opened fire, according to Cueto.

Cuerto said the woman had no history of contact with the police or outstanding warrants. He could not say what prompted the shooting.
