The ICE agent was attempting to arrest the man, who had been previously deported because of drug and weapon offenses, when he fled, according to Orange police Sgt. Dan Adams.

Adams declined to comment about the teen's immigration status, but did say the suspect had a criminal record.

The teen's mother, who was also inside the taqueria, was detained on suspicion of obstruction of justice after she told officers her son was not inside the store. She eventually told officers the teen was hiding in the ceiling.

The teen threw a metal object, a blender or meat grinder, at the agent, but he missed, Adams said. The teen then locked himself in a bathroom.

The agent called Orange police.

The teen has not yet been publicly identified, but Adams said he prior weapons and drug violations. He now faces assault with a deadly weapon charges for attacking the agent, Adams said.
