NORTH HILLS -- Two vandals were behind bars Saturday after they allegedly beat up an Australian cameraman who videotaped one of them tagging a traffic signal box in North Hills.

The alleged attack happened Wednesday near Parthenia Street and Columbus Avenue in North Hills, in the same block where the taggers were arrested a day later, according to Officer April Harding of the Los Angeles Police Department.

"An Australian camera crew was working on a story about taggers and captured one of the men on camera vandalizing a traffic box," Harding said.

"While the cameraman and his colleague reviewed the taped footage, the suspects provoked and assaulted the cameraman."

One of the suspects was wearing brass knuckles, according to Harding.

The victims suffered several cuts to his head, Harding said.

Both suspects -- identified as Kevin Ottoniel Carrillo, 18, and Rene Fernando Aldana, 20 -- fled the scene. They were arrested Thursday at an apartment building in the 8600 block of Columbus Avenue, near Parthenia Street, and booked at the Van Nuys Jail.

Carillo and Aldana are both accused of assault with a deadly weapon. They remain jailed in lieu of $30,000 bail each.
