Los Angeles Police officers responded to a report of a shooting about 8:30 p.m. in the 300 block of W. Avenue 33. When they arrived, they found the bicyclist suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in front of a closed business.
Paramedics rushed the bicyclist to a USC Medical Center, where he died a short time later.
Detectives believe the bicyclist rode through an industrial area and came upon several gang members. For an unknown reason, the gang members opened fire on the bicyclist as he tried to pedal away, police officials said.
The LAPD has not released the identity of the victim, saying the teen's name will be withheld until his family can be notified.
Detectives have not released information about the possible suspects, saying only that gang violence was the apparent motive in the shooting.
