LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- Police are looking for two thieves who tunneled into a jewelry store in downtown Los Angeles and made off with about $3 million in jewelry.

The break-in happened sometime between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 19 at the Broadway Gold Center, located at 601 S. Broadway, police said.

Detectives say the masked burglars tunneled their way into the store and took high-end jewelry like engagement and wedding rings from the display cases.

Police think the crooks had some knowledge about the store's layout, because they managed to avoid any structural obstacles in their tunneling.

The store's owners told police that they normally put the jewelry away in a safe place at the end of the day, but had left it in the cases that particular day to save time.
