TIJUANA, Mexico -- A 21-year-old San Diego college student kidnapped near the U.S.-Mexico border has been found bound and beaten inside a closet in Tijuana, authorities said.

The woman, a U.S. citizen whose name has not been released, was found handcuffed, gagged and beaten inside the closet on Saturday, according to prosecutors in the Mexico state of Baja California.

The woman was freed after a suspect detained by U.S. authorities in San Diego told police where to find her, assistant state prosecutor Fermin Gomez said.

Two other suspects were arrested.

The woman has residences on both sides of the border and met her captors at a nightclub in Tijuana last Wednesday, according to Mexican authorities.

The kidnappers followed her from her home in Tijuana and forced her into the trunk of her own car near the San Ysidro border, authorities said.

The captors threatened to kill her unless they were paid $200,000, Gomez said.

Her family contacted the FBI, who helped with her rescue.

Mexican authorities are investigating whether the suspects have ties to organized crime.
