VENICE -- A speeding car crashed into the wall of an apartment building in Venice on Saturday morning, according to witnesses.
The accident happened around 5:20 a.m. at Venice Way and Windward Avenue.
Witnesses sitting on a nearby bus bench said the female driver sped by and then hit some parked cars and a tree before crashing into the apartment building.
The car ended up inside a first-floor bedroom of a two-story apartment. Resident Alex Pundez was sleeping inside that bedroom, but he wasn't hurt.
Pundez said the car caught fire and the woman started screaming for help.
He managed to crawl over the car and out of his apartment, and then knocked on neighbors doors to get them to call 911. Firefighters quickly put the car fire out.
The driver was taken to the hospital, reportedly in critical condition.
The crash is now under investigation.
