SANTA MONICA -- A body found floating in Santa Monica Bay is that of a man who jumped into the ocean off the Venice Pier a week ago, according to coroner's officials.

The Los Angeles County coroner's office says the body of 31-year-old Brian Patrick Dunn of West Hollywood was recovered Sunday.

A fisherman discovered the body Sunday morning about 300 yards from the beach in Santa Monica, Lifeguard Capt. Terry Hearst said.

Investigators say Dunn was highly intoxicated when he jumped from the pier in Venice Beach fully clothed around 2:45 a.m. on July 5.

A friend called 911 to report the incident.

Several agencies spent the entire day searching the choppy ocean for the missing man, using boats and helicopters.

U.S. Coast Guard officials eventually called off their search for Dunn.

Coast Guard officials said shortly after Dunn disappeared, there were strong rip currents from Venice Beach to Santa Monica, with 6-to-8-foot waves reported in the area.
