VENTURA -- Sheriff's officials say a Faria Beach couple stabbed to death in their beach front home were specifically targeted by the killer.
An intruder, dressed in black and wearing a motorcycle helmet , entered the home in the 4200 block of Faria Road around 10:30 p.m. on May 20.
Brock and Davina Husted, both 42, were stabbed as many as ten times in the torso, according to Capt. Ross Bonfiglio of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.
Their bodies were found in the back of the one-story house.
Authorities say the couple's 2 children were at home at the time, but were not hurt.
Bonfiglio told KTLA that it appears the suspect entered the home through an unlocked sliding glass door.
The mother was in the kitchen and the father was in a bedroom at the time, Bonfiglio said.
Their 9-year-old son was watching television while his 11-year-old sister was asleep in a bedroom.
"We are definitively saying we think they were targeted," said sheriff's spokesman Capt. Ross Bonfiglio.
Davina was at least four months pregnant with their third child.
Five months after the crime, the two detectives assigned to lead the case continue to spend a large portion of their time on it, Bonfiglio said.
The detectives have had help from the sheriff's Major Crimes Unit and an inter-agency task force on cyber crime and technology, he said.
Investigators have submitted hundreds of pieces of evidence to crime labs in the case, Bonfiglio said.
Detectives have also served numerous search warrants, many related to the victims' records or properties.
Bonfiglio declined to say if detectives have identified a possible motive or suspect, citing the continuing investigation.
"The information gleaned from this extensive investigation has given us a better understanding of at least why they may have been killed," Bonfiglio said.
"I believe that it will ultimately lead to an arrest."
Despite some similarities, authorities dont believe the Faria Beach killings were related to the stabbing death of Wendy Di Rodio two weeks later in the Ventura Keys.
Di Rodio was found stabbed to death June 3 in a locked bedroom inside the home she shared with her elderly parents.
Anyone with information in either attack is asked to call detectives at (805) 477-7000.
