31 year old Issac Bandt, according to Los Angeles County prosecutors, is also charged with felony driving under the influence and felony hit and run.
The complaint further alleges that the defendant drove at excessive speed.
The accident happened just before 10 p.m. Saturday at Alameda Street and Vernon Avenue in the city of Vernon.
Investigators have determined that a Honda with four people inside traveling north on Alameda St. was hit broadside by a Dodge pickup truck, driven by Bandt, traveling west on Vernon Ave.
Bandt fled the scene and law enforcement officers found the defendant several blocks away, prosecutors said.
Three people killed in the Honda have been identified as 30-year-old Rafael Chavez-Rodriguez, his 25-year-old girlfriend Jessika Quinonez-Gonzalez, and Jessika's 70-year-old grandmother, Amanda Samoya.
A six-year-old boy, identified as Jessika's son, was injured. He was taken to the hospital, and was expected to survive.
Police are investigating the possibility that the driver of the pickup truck was drunk at the time of the crash.
