VIDEO: Surfers Rescue Baby Shark in Venice
Viewer Elvia sent in this video of the rescue, saying the shark became stranded on the sand near the Venice Pier after it latched on to a fishing hook.
"The rescuers were heroes," she said, as her camera captured surfers and other good samaritans trying to lead the Great White back to the water.
The shark can be seen swimming back to the ocean at the end of the video.

Add / View comments | Discussion FAQif you had even the most basic understanding of white sharks you would know that a shark this size will only eat small to medium size fish and will continue to do so for years until it gets big enough to graduate onto marine mammals like sea lions, so it is EXTREMELY improbable that this shark would just hang around and attack a person. almost all shark attacks by white sharks occurr due to misidentification(believing they are seeing a floating seal at the surface) they do not, like posiedon47 said, seek people out. also these misidentified attacks occur from young and mature adults, not from juveniles. i think its great most people(scared ignorrant people asside) have changed their school of thought regarding sharks and especially white sharks, theyre such amazing creatures that are not just interesting to observe and think about, they are also EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to the oceans and their place in the food chain. twenty years ago this shark would have been killed for sure. to the guys that had the ball bag to do something positive and help save the shark, good work!
@ FreeBrain...get educated and you won't embarrass yourself in front of the whole inter-net with your anthropocentric homocentric opinions which are based on half facts. If you had any idea how many white sharks actually patrol the waters off of Cali you would realize that they don't seek and eat people, because we taste like crap! If sharks ate people, they would be ripping us apart at every beach across the globe. Surfers are saving the shark, no one is saying "NO! LE IT DIE!" You would think that they would be the first to scream "KILL! KILL! KILL!" Go read a book!
@ Surfers. Well done. You did a noble thing. Kharma will reward you.
Check the news tomorrow...
... An then a juvenile great white ate some shark-rescue guys balls in the surfing lineup!...
In reality one of the stupidest things I ve seen is saving a great white shark near the coast where KIDS could be swimming...
Killing hundreds of sharks for sport or even food could be bad, but fishing one shark that is swimming near the coast where people swim IS NOT bad ! (yeah, like you dont eat animals, pft....!)

** (that shark was near people and if u dont eat it, there is a possibility that is gonna eat some part of u later... I am biologist and I approve this message...
