ADELANTO -- Three people were killed Saturday when a vintage helicopter hit power lines, crashed and caught fire in San Bernardino County.
The Piasecki PV-18 took off from Adelanto Airport at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, and was headed for Flabob Airport in Riverside, according to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor.
The helicopter crashed about a mile south of Adelanto Airport, killing all three people aboard.
Investigators from the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were at the scene Saturday.
The three men aboard were reportedly burned so badly they could had to be identified through dental records.
There was no immediate word on the cause and identities of the victims were not immediately released.
FAA records show the owner is Joseph William Pike of Victorville.
Gregor says the helicopter is a vintage military aircraft built in 1951.
The men were supposedly en route to an aircraft and classic car show honoring U.S. veterans at the Flabob Airport in Riverside where it the vintage helicopter had been booked to a appear as a non-flying display, said even director Jon Goldenbaum.
Adelanto is a city in the Mojave Desert about 70 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
