WHITTIER -- A 13 year old Whittier girl allegedly abducted by her uncle was found safe Saturday night, and the uncle was arrested, police said.

Cynthia Irene Hernandez was allegedly abducted Friday night by 45 year old Juan Cuella Hernandez.

Cynthia's mother and Juan Hernandez were apparently involved in an argument over child care at their home on Pickering Avenue in Whittier.

The argument continued outside the house, according to police. When Cynthia's mother tried to take her back inside the home, Juan Hernandez allegedly grabbed her, pushed her into his truck and drove away.

Cynthia was rescued around 9 p.m. Saturday when Hernandez stopped to refuel his pickup truck at a gas station in San Dimas, according to Jason Zuhlke of the Whittier Police Department.

The girl was returned to her family, Zuhlke said.

Authorities would not give specifics on how they located Hernandez, who is now in police custody.

Hernandez was wanted for the abduction of Cynthia as well as a parole violation.

He apparently moved in with Cynthia and her mother three months ago to help out with expenses, but Cynthia's mother began to suspect he was having a sexual relationship with the girl.

The mother of five said he became possessive of Cynthia and wouldn't let her out of his sight. Cynthia's mom also said Hernandez would order the girl into his locked bedroom.
