PALM SPRINGS (KTLA) -- A woman accused of trying to cut off her husband's penis with a pair of scissors pleaded not guilty Tuesday to assault with a deadly weapon.
Virginia Valdez, 69, is free on $100,000 bail, but is banned from having any contact with her husband.
Valdez is charged with inflicting corporal injury on a spouse and assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the Dec. 3 attack. Palm Springs police received a report of an assault at a home on Rochelle Road that day.
When officers arrived, they found the 62-year-old man with injuries to his genital area, according to police.
The man told officers that his wife had attempted to sever his penis with a pair of scissors.
He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The injuries were deemed non-life threatening and he was later released.
Valdez is due back in court April 10.
