MISSION VIEJO- A woman who was the victim of an assault and robbery weeks ago was hospitalized Monday after being attacked again by the same man who is believed to be her ex-boyfriend, police say.
Orange County Sheriff's deputies responded to an assault call at 8:00 a.m. Monday by neighbors who witnessed the violent incident, while other neighbors held the man down and waited for police to arrive.
The victim, a woman in her 40s, was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, suffering from head injuries.
Witnesses say the suspect pounded her head off the pavement. "I came around the corner and there was two gentlemen that had a guy down on the ground, restraining him. I noticed the woman was lying in the gutter out, unconscious. I checked on her and determined she was breathing and headed back to the house to get some blankets and some pillows to try to make her more comfortable," neighbor Corey Wilson told KTLA.
Wilson said by the time paramedics arrived, the pillow was "soaked in a lot of blood."
The attack suspect, Mark Alan Jarosik, 43, of Trabuco Canyon, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Neighbors told O.C. Sheriff's Department investigators that Jarosik used to be the woman's boyfriend before she broke up with him recently after his behavior grew more and more erratic after losing his job.
Monday's attack was far from being Jarosik's first violent encounter with his ex-girlfriend, police said. Sheriff's officials say he attacked her two weeks ago, and he may have attempted to burglarize the woman's home on Sunday night.
According to Jim Amormino of the OC Sheriff's Department, Jarosik had just been released on $100,000 bail Saturday night before Sunday's possible attempted burglary and Monday's assault.
Amormino confirmed, "He did victimize the same woman two weeks before."
According to court records, Jarosik had been arrested on charges of rape and attempted sodomy on May 15th, though he pleaded not guilty to those charges on June 5th.
