AZUSA -- A woman killed in an alcohol-related crash early Thursday morning was rushing home to prepare for a court mandated DUI class, according to her passenger who survived the accident
24 year old Lidia Kopach was killed when she lost control of her car around 2:00 a.m. and slammed into the center divider on the eastbound 210 freeway in Azusa and rolled over, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Frausto.
Her passenger, 24 year old Daniel Martinez, told officers at the scene that he and Kopach met for drinks at a bar in Monrovia in the hours before the crash and each consumed two vodka drinks and split two pitchers of beer, the Pasadena Star News is reporting.
Martinez suffered only minor injuries in the crash.
Martinez said Kopach told him she had to go home and get some sleep because she had to attend a court-mandated DUI education class the same day, the paper said.
Kopach had been convicted of DUI on September 30, 2009 in West Covina Superior Court.
Martinez says he tolk Kopach to slow down before the crash.
