PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- "I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated," Tiger Woods said on Friday as he spoke to the media for the first time since his Thanksgiving weekend crash and shocking revelations of infidelity.

Woods said he was "deeply sorry" for his selfish and irresponsible behavior.

"I have... disappointed all of you. I have made you question who I am and how I could have done the things that I did."

Woods spoke from the clubhouse at the TPC Sawgrass, home of the PGA Tour in Florida, in front of about 40 people, including his mother. His speech lasted about 13 minutes.

His wife, Elin, was not obviously present, however, the golfer mentioned repairing their relationship.

Woods said his apology to Elin would "not come in the form of words."

Instead, he said, "it will come from my behavior over time."

Woods also vehemently denied rumors that his wife Elin attacked him on the night of his Nov. 27th crash.

"There has never been an episode of domestic violence in our marriage -- ever."

"Elin never hit me that night or any other night."

Woods said his wife "deserves praise, not blame."

Admitting he felt he "deserved to enjoy the temptations" that came with his fabulous success, Woods said he is solely responsible for his actions and brought "this shame" on himself.

"My failures have made me look at myself in a way I never wanted to before. It's now up to me to make amends and that starts by never repeating the mistakes I've made."

Woods said he was in therapy for 45 days and will return for more treatment.

"I ask you to find room in your heart to one day believe in me again," Woods said before walking off and hugging his mother along with other supporters.

Woods said he is unsure when he will return to competitive golf.

The news conference occurred during the middle of the Accenture Match Play Championship, one of the sponsors that dropped Tiger during his sex scandal.
