A 1-month-old baby was found alone near I-80 and Watt Avenue Friday afternoon, and now his grandmother faces charges.
CHP officers found the baby boy in a carrier along the on-ramp around 2 p.m., and they called Sacramento Deputies to an area across from the Motel 6.
Witnesses said the baby was alone for about 45 minutes. While deputies were investigating, a woman approached them and said she had left the baby while she went to retrieve some belongings.
The woman, 54-year-old Kit Samuel, is the baby’s grandmother. Officers say she was intoxicated.
Emergency crews are medically checking out the baby as a precaution, but all signs are that the child is not hurt. Child Protective Services will have custody of the baby.
Samuel is behind bars and booked for a felony count of child endangerment and a misdemeanor count of public intoxication. She's being held on $60,000 bail.
