A babysitter is facing murder charges in connection with the death of a two-year-old girl.
Emergency crews were called to a home along Marseille Lane in Modesto Tuesday afternoon for reports of a child who was not breathing.
The unconscious toddler was rushed to the hospital, where she died.
The babysitter, 31-year-old Maria Torres, told responding officers the young girl had fallen down the stairs. However, officers found discrepancies in her story, and they contacted detectives for further investigation.
Modesto Police report they gathered evidence that led to Torres’ arrest for murder, however they did not explain what that evidence was. They also have not at this time identified a motive in this case. Torres is now in the Stanislaus County Jail.
