FORT LEE, N.J. (WPIX)—
Police have arrested a suspect in connection to a fatal hit-and-run that happened Monday afternoon in Fort Lee, New Jersey - and witnesses say it was not an accident. The suspect, identified as Charles Ann, has been charged with first-degree murder, authorities said.
According to police, the victim, 25-year-old Aena Hong was crossing at the intersection of Anderson Avenue and Inwood Terrace when she was repeatedly run over by a speeding car Monday, driven by Ann. Witnesses knew almost instantly this was no hit-and-run, but a case of murder.
The scene shortly after 5 p.m. was a horror, with a lifeless body in the street, and parts of a car scattered about. Witnesses told PIX 11 News that the driver hit the woman and then ran her down again.
An investigation later revealed that Ann and Hong were involved in a long-term relationship and had been feuding before the shocking incident.
Susie He, who called 911, said she was horrified as she watched the car back over the woman's body and go forward again, at least three times. She saw a neighbor race over and try to stop the man, banging on the car and attempting to pull him out. The driver hit the gas and raced off, heading south.
The car was found Monday night on 10th Street and Stillwell Avenue in Fort Lee.
The Bergen County Prosecutors office is investigating the matter and calling it a case of vehicular homicide.
