NEW YORK (WPIX)—
A pediatrician has pleaded guilty to a charge of having sex with an underage, male patient in his Upper West Side Manhattan office, PIX News has learned.Dr. Jaime Cortes, 47, pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of sexual abuse and committing a criminal sex act in the second-degree. He admitted to committing various sex acts with the 13-year-old boy at a pediatrics clinic in Washington Heights where he practiced.
Manhattan Justice Thomas Farber said he will sentence Dr. Cortes on July 28 to five years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.
Prosecutors say Cortes began soliciting the child for sex when he was 10. They say he gave the boy cell phones and money, and sent him inappropriate text messages and explicit photographs.
An employee of Cortes' alerted police, when she witnessed the physician kiss and touch the boy's genitals at the Manhattan office, a criminal complaint states. The child's mother reportedly spoke with the same employee about her concern over her son's increased interest in Cortes. The mother grew worried when the two would spend a great amount of time together, officials said.
Cortes had previously been acquitted after being accused of molesting two boys in 1994.
