Attention all voters! Pink's, LA's famous hot dog vendor, wants YOU to vote. And, as a reward for doing your civic duty, Pink's is offering a FREE hot dog to the first 1000 voters to show up at their Melrose and La Brea location with proof that they voted.
Speaking of voting, how about some Election Day 2010 trivia?
*Did you know one vote really does make a difference? California became a state in the union in September 1850 as part of the Compromise of 1850 with ONE vote. Other states, that joined the union by one vote include Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. In 1920, Tennessee ratified the 19th Amendment, which allowed women to vote, by one vote. Tennessee was the last state needed for ratification.
*In the state of California, approximately 73.4% of eligible voters are registered to vote in today's elections, an increase from the 2006 elections, where only 69.96% of eligible voters were registered. Since the last gubernatorial election year in 2006, the percentage of voters registered with the Democratic Party increased from 42.5% to 44.1%; the percentage of voters registered with the Republican Party decreased from 34.3% to 31% and the percentage of voters who have declined to state their political party decreased from 80.7% to 79%. Los Angeles County has the ninth highest percentage of Democratic Party registered voters in the state with 51.4%.
*Did you know? Psephophobia is a fear of voting. Conquer your fears today and do your civic duty.
Pink's, a family-run business located on the corner of Melrose and La Brea, has been in the same location since 1939 when Paul Pink started his hot dog stand selling all-beef hot dogs specially made by Hoffy. At the heart of Pink's fame is their chili, a recipe devised by Paul's wife and co-founder, Betty Pink. The original Pink's was a large-wheeled push cart that served an over-sized hot dog in a large warm bun, with mustard, onions and thick chili for only 10 cents each. Since that time, movie stars, well-known dignitaries, struggling musicians, businessmen, housewives and school children have savored Pink's famous chili dogs. By voting early today, you can savor the flavor for FREE.
Pink's opens everyday at 9:30 am. On Sunday through Thursday, closing time is 2:00 am. On Friday and Saturday, closing time is one hour later at 3:00 am.
