LOS ANGELES -- One American Eagle commuter jet backed into another one as it was pushing back from a gate at Los Angeles International Airport Thursday afternoon.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said Flight 3085, an Embraer EMB-140 bound for San Diego, had just pushed back from the gate when it hit the tail of another Embraer parked at the next gate.
The incident happened about 4:40 p.m. near Gate 44E, at the midfield terminal.
None of the 40 passengers and 3 crew members aboard the departing aircraft were injured, but there was slight damage to one or both of the planes, said Nancy Castles, a LAX spokesperson.
The departing plane, which was bound for San Diego, returned to the gate and its passengers were being booked on other flights, according to airport officials.
No one was aboard the other plane at the time of the bump.
FAA traffic controllers were not directing either of the two Ambraer E135 turboprop planes at the time of the collision, Gregor said.
The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident, Castles said.
American Eagle is the regional affiliate of American Airlines.
