During our 7am, 8am, and 9am hours, Gayle Anderson was live at in Santa Monica with a preview of this weekend's COPA CABANA BEACH SOCCER TOURNAMENT in Santa Monica. More than 150 teams are expected to play the game, described as the fastest growing beach sport in the world for youth and adult players. Event organizers believe it is destined to become part of the Olympics.

Lots of action is predicted from top youth players, aged 8 to 18, and Men's Women's and Co-ed teams, as well as professional exhibition players from the U.S. and Brazil, including world freestyle champ, Fernando Pitt.

Hollywood United Football Club Joins Tournament; Celebrities to Appear

EVENT: The Copa Cabana Beach Soccer Tournament returns to Santa Monica, June 13 and 14, 2009. The Tournaments feature fun, competitive beach soccer and are open to youth, men's, women's, coed, and professional teams. The events encourage fair team play, friendship, healthy competition and leisure activity set in a festival atmosphere. The Tournaments are open to the public, free-of-charge, to join the party and watch the competitions. More than 150 teams are expected to play in the two-day tournament, which takes place just north of the Santa Monica Pier. More than 4,000 spectators are expected. Stars from shows including "Heroes" and "Without a Trace" are scheduled to attend and play during the tournament, and you never know who might make a cameo!

WHEN: Saturday, June 13 & Sunday, June 14, 2009, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

BACKGROUND: The Santa Monica Event is the third of the Copa Cabana 2009 season, following successful events in Oxnard and Seal Beach. The National Championships will be held in Las Vegas, September 11-13, 2009. Copa Cabana Beach Soccer Tournaments are sponsored by Hansen's Natural Beverages. Copa Cabana Beach Soccer originated on Southern California beaches in 2007, and is officially sanctioned by The United States Beach Soccer Federation.
