Cartier's 100th Anniversary in America
Cartier is proud to present more than 100 creations which are part of its history in an exhibition titled "Cartier…100 Years of Passion and Free Spirit" which will debut in New York and travel to Los Angeles. The creations are a part of Cartier's history, many on loan from notable clients, collectors and museums and also from the private archives of the Cartier Collection. The Cartier Collection was founded in 1983 and boasts more than 1,200 items made by Cartier since the nineteenth century. Exhibited at the landmark Fifth Avenue Mansion, and later at the Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive boutique, these creations will be displayed alongside some precious objects, which have exceptionally been loaned, including Dame Elizabeth Taylor's La Peregrina mid-16th century pearl on a natural pearl, ruby and diamond necklace, Princess Grace's Poodle Clip-brooch, in platinum and diamonds, created in 1958, Mrs. Cole Porter's scarab belt buckle, Marlene Dietrich's silver and gold bracelet and clip earrings or Elton John's heart-shaped sapphire ring, mounted on yellow gold with a sapphire weighing 43.45 carats. A unique opportunity to discover or rediscover the precious creations of the Cartier Collection: a 1930 sautoir, in diamonds, ruby leaves and cabochons, natural pearls, sold to Mrs C.G. Lancaster, or Daisy Fellowes' ring, a cluster of sapphire cabochons on yellow gold (1948)… Not only spectacular creations but also daily luxury items such the astonishing travel box of Mrs Vanderbilt (1917) or Vivien Leigh's gold powder box, punctuated with ruby cabochons (1948), or items with a lighter spirit, such as the 1936 Charm's bracelet representing Snow White and the seven dwarves, as a tribute to Walt Disney. 100 years of creativity have linked Cartier to the America: to be discovered at this exhibition, a rare and moving voyage through the creative universe of Cartier.
