During the KTLA NEWS AT 1PM, Gayle was live at FELIX CHEVROLET CADILLAC to see the brand new Chevrolet Camaro. The muscle car is getting a lot of attention since it is one of the vehicles featured on the new movie TRANSFORMERS 2: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN.

If you want a new Camaro (www.camaroblog.com) this year, you might have to restore one yourself! GM says demand has far outstripped supply and some dealers report they may not be able to stock the 2010 Camaro for another year.

The strong sales may be related to the Camaro's staring role in TRANSFORMERS 2: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN or might be attributable to pent-up demand. It is the first Camaro sold since 2002 (money.cnn.com/2002/08/28/pf/autos/camaroauction/index.htm). (The corportate twin Firebird was killed in '02 as well.) Either way, sales of the sporty Chevrolet are a rare bright spot in a General Motors lineup stricken with decemated sales. On average, the iconic muscle car sells for about $500 more than invoice or sticker price, according analysts quoted by Bloomberg news.

Chevy's retro-styled pony car, powered by either a 6.2L V8 or a 3.6L V6 engine, certainly turns heads.

Chevy says it has booked about 25,000 orders for Camaros so far in 2009, and may conceivably sell over 40,000 by year end. Time will tell if demand can remain strong once the novelty and effects of the movie promotion.
