STUDIO CITY (KTLA) ­ -- A man was shot in the parking garage of a brand new luxury spa hotel early Sunday morning, authorities said.

The shooting happened at 3 a.m. inside The BLVD Hotel & Spa on the 10700 block of Ventura Blvd near Lankershim.

The victim, an adult male, was rushed by ambulance with police escort to a local hospital.

Police and witnesses at the scene said the suspect, described as an adult male African-American wearing a blue sweat suit, accosted an adult male hotel patron as he exited The Lobby bar on the ground floor of the hotel and entered the underground parking garage.

The gunman opened fire numerous times striking the hotel customer at least once, reportedly after an altercation. The gunman then fled on foot through the concealed rear exit of the parking garage, past witnesses and out of view.

Bar patrons and hotel guests reported hearing five loud gunshots before seeing the suspect flee down Ventura Blvd. A bar employee described the shooting to police showing carefully spaced shots being fired A broken wine bottle may have been used in the assault ­or was dropped by a startled witness.

BLVD Hotel and Spa Managing Director Sagar Kumar issued this statement regarding the unfortunate shooting incident at the Hotel this morning: “The victim ran from the street into the hotel parking garage. There, the alleged shooters followed him inside and opened fire on him, then escaped in a black SUV. The incident didn’t take place in our bar--which was closed at the time--or have anything to do with patrons or guests at the hotel. We regret the incident.”

The BLVD Hotel & Spa is a brand new luxury boutique hotel with high-end spa services located within two blocks of Universal Studios. Rooms range in price from $140 to $400 per night.
