DENVER -- Denver Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno faces drunk driving charges after getting pulled over by Denver Police on Feb. 1, FOX31 Denver has learned.

According to the citation, Moreno, 24, was driving a Bentley convertible when he was pulled over on southbound Interstate 25 near Quincy Ave. for going as fast as 70 miles per hour in a construction zone.

The Bentley has personalized license plates that read "SAUCED."

The posted speed limit was 45 mph.

The officer smelled alcohol and Moreno did poorly on a roadside sobriety test.

Police say they administered breath test, arrested Moreno for DUI, and then took him to detox. Police say Moreno was “very respectful and polite.”

"We take the incident involving Knowshon Moreno very seriously and are thoroughly reviewing this matter," the Broncos said in a statement Monday. "Our organization will continue to gather information and closely monitor this issue while the legal process runs its course."

Moreno’s agent did not immediately return our calls.
Moreno was selected 12th overall by the Denver Broncos in the 2009 draft. He played college football at the University of Georgia.

Moreno started the 2011 season splitting carries with Willis McGahee but eventually lost his starting job. His season was cut short when he suffered an ACL tear on Nov. 15 in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
